Chicago Cubs Fans, Do You Really Think Phillies Fans Will Let This Go?

I am not a Phillies fan and not a Cubs fan.

I am a Mets fan looking at one of the best pitchers in all time, Pedro Martinez, make his comeback start.

Not to take anything away from Pedro (he was amazing and made it look easy), but he did not end up the biggest part of the game for me.

In the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out, Shane Victorino made a key catch while being doused with beer.

That made me angry. I know it is not all Cubs fans and that could have happened in Citi Field or Yankee Stadium. I bet there is even a Cardinal fan out there that could have done that.

So its not about the Cubs fans, but it is about the Cubs.

Why is it about the Cubs?

Because the Cubs are going to need to go to Citizens Bank Park again.

Maybe not this year, but I know Phillies fans are not going to let this go, and I think they shouldn’t.

And it may be this season, it looks like it may even be the NLDS. And the first game would be at Philadelphia.

The Cubs do not lead the central, but they are in the race with the Cardinals.

You’ve got to defend your players, and that may be part of our job as fans.

Phillies fans are the fans that I love to hate the most, and I know that they are not just regular fans.

All these Phillies fans are lovers of there team and will do what ever it takes to make their players safe.

Kind of like Red Sox Nation, just in Philadelphia.

The Phillies fans will not just shower the Cubs fans in beer next time the Cubs go on the road for a NL East trip through Philadelphia, they will shower the Cubs players like it’s their wedding night.

And I am not sure if it is only Phillies fans who are angry with this. I know I am very angry at the Cubs right now.

As I said before it is not their fault, but it does happen to be their fan at their home.

I would not do anything because I am a wimp and too young to drink beer at a baseball game. But I do hope other fans, even Mets fans, get back at the Cubs for doing this to the Phillies.

And baseball should not let this go, the commissioner should do something to the Cubs about it.

Maybe they should forfeit today’s game to make up for it, anything to make it so this never happens again.

I know that in some soccer games in Europe, if the home fans do crazy things they have the next game with no fans allowed in the stadium.

Ether way, this should not just pass with nothing happening about it. Baseball should do something.

Or the Phillies will.

Many of you will comment that I am being childish and that the Phillies fans will not do  anything about it. Well, I say you are half right.

I am being childish, but Phillies fans will do it.

It can even be done in the bottom of the eighth with the Phillies ether winning big time or losing big time. One fan that buys a $20 ticket in the pavilion deck.

So watch out Cubs fans—all it takes is one Phillies fan.

New York Mets Fans, Let’s Hope We Can Slide Past the Phillies

May 1, 2009 by

The Phillies are a great team. Last year they won the NL East and went and went on to win the World Series. So the Mets are going to go in to Philadelphia to face the World Series champs, who, for now, look like the better team. The questions is: Can the Mets slide past the Phillies in this series?

I think they can, the Mets looked good against the Phillies last season going 12-7 against them. The first Mets Phillies series last year was at Shea, the Mets lost the first game and won the next two.

If the Mets can do that again I will be really happy, I hope we can win two out of three. I am not going to lie, I don’t think they can sweep the Phillies (that may be a good thing since all my productions are always wrong).

The Mets will send out Big-Pelf to pitch the first game, I think the Mets can win this one since the Phillies are sending Chan Ho Park to the mound and he sucks. He has a ERA of 7.16

In the second game (by the way, if anyone is interested, it will be televised by Fox Sports) the Phillies will send Jamie Moyer to pitch as the Mets send Perez. I think this game depends on Perez. Will the good one come out, or the bad one, I think the Mets will get to Moyer early and often. Perez has looked good against the Phillies in the last few seasons.

Joe Blanton will pitch game three of the series, and lets hope the Mets can get to him. Like all Phillies starters his ERA is in the sky, but he is at .500 with a record of 2-2. The Mets will send John Maine to the mound, and he has been looking bad. It will be a hard game for the Mets.

The Mets bats will need to wake-up in Philadelphia, its a hitters park and it is the chance for David Wright and Jose Reyes to get things started.

It will be a very hard series for the Mets, I hope they can take advantage in the East and win at least two. But the Phillies will be looking to do the same and not much can stand in between the Phillies and what they want.

Good luck Mets

NL East: Phillies Good, Mets Not So Good, Marlins Bad

If you are looking for a preview to the next Mets-Marlins or Phillies-Nats series, you will not find it here. This is just my look at the NL east right now, hope you enjoy it!

The Phillies have started to look good in the last week, they have swept the Florida Marlins in Florida and are now just a game-and-a-half away from the number one spot in the NL East.

This article is not about the Marlins, we all knew they would fall. But Mets fans, what about the Phillies? Are they going to run ahead in the NL East?

The Mets are starting to look bad, and I for one am starting to panic. Yes, they won two out of three against the Washington Nationals, but they are the Nationals, they are a given win.

If they would have swept I would not be so scared, but if the Phillies can sweep the Marlins, then we should sweep the Nats.

The Marlins are now coming to New York to play the Mets in there new home. But it looks like they may end their losing streak very soon if the Mets starters can’t get things back in order.

You know the Mets are going to win one of them, the last one.

How do we know this? Two words: Johan Santana.

Santana was killing the Marlins last time they faced him, he struck out 13 and did not give up even one earned run. Murphy’s mistake gave Santana his only loss of the season.

The other two games are going to be harder, you have the great Hanley Ramirez leading his team in to battle against the not so good Mets starters, John Maine and Livan Hernandez.

It looks like all we can do is hope, hope the Mets starters get on the right track. If they do, then the Mets may be able to sweep as Santana comes to pitch.

Back to the Phillies, they are coming back home to face the Nats who are coming from New York on a good note of winning the last game against the Mets, hope they can use that momentum to beat the Phillies.

In the second day of the series, the Phillies will send Cole Hamels to the mound to start the game. 2009 has been hard for the 2008 World Series MVP. He has not done well for his team and is looking like he is in pain.

His last time out the big man Prince Fielder hit a line drive to Cole’s back, he left the game after that.

If the Cole does not come back to last season’s form the Phillies will be in big trouble. Wish him the best even if I am a Mets fan.

Shortstop Mania in the NL East

April 17, 2009 by

There are many great shortstops in baseball, buy very few come to mind when you try to think of “the best” in baseball.

Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins, and Hanley Ramirez are considered by many as the top three shortstops in baseball, and they have a lot in common between them.

1. They play in the NL East.

2. They are really fast and steal a lot of bases.

3. Each one of them would be the No. 1 shortstop in any other division in baseball.

4. Without them, their respective team does not stand a chance to make the playoffs.

Most baseball fans think that Ramirez is the best out of the three, so we don’t even need to put him in the race.

No. 2 is close because Rollins and Reyes are both great. Rollins is better on defense, while Reyes is better on offense. But it is close, and a betting Phillies fans will not agree with me.

But I think they will agree with me that these are the three best shortstops in baseball.

There are a few players that many people are thinking of and asking why do I think they are not in the top three.

Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter is great, but as the years go by, he is getting worse. His fielding percentage is lower than the other three, and he does not cover much ground.

He has less at-bats than the other three since he is the No. 2 hitter in the Yankees’ lineup, while the others are lead-off hitters.

Michael Young also comes to mind when you think of great shortstops, but there are two reasons I think he is not in the top three: 1). He is on the best hitting team, yet has the fewest RBI, and 2). He is slower than the top three, and thus has less steals and triples than the others.

Some people are thinking about  J.J. Hardy  of the Brewers right now, but I do not think he is even close to top three. He does not have as good of an average as the top three, and he also lacks the same speed and durability as Reyes, Rollins and Ramirez.

Jose, Jimmy, and Ramirez should be very proud of themselves.

They are not only the top three shortstops in baseball, they are also in the race for the top all-around players in baseball.
