The Philadelphia Phillies, with a 29-62 record, are one of the few teams in Major League Baseball firmly out of contention, so they could look to deal some of their veteran players in hopes of building for the future.

While fans never want to have a losing season, being one of the only legitimate sellers in the league is a powerful thing. Philadelphia has some attractive assets, and with many teams looking to improve for a potential postseason run, the Phillies have the ability to control the market.

The Phillies front office will have to decide just how committed they are to dealing certain players. The club’s high asking prices have scared other teams off in recent years, but now that it has a chance to conduct a bidding war, it may be more willing to deal.

Keep coming back throughout July to see what rumors the Phillies are involved in and what deals they make before the July 31 trade deadline passes.

The Philadelphia Phillies‘ aging roster isn’t making things easy for the front office, so it’s not clear how active the team will be this offseason.

Philadelphia was expected to be one of the most active teams at the trade deadline back in July. Instead, the team did nothing. That may be because they didn’t get any offers that they felt were fair. Many of the team’s veteran players have some type of no-trade clause in their contracts. That makes completing deals that much tougher.

With Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Jonathan Papelbon, the team has some attractive trade chips. It’s just not clear as to how eager the team is to move any of those star players. The club may be more willing to deal some players more than others, but then the finances complicate matters.

The Phillies already have a lot of money committed to the 2015 payroll, and with an aging roster that is less competitive than it was when the big contracts were handed out, the team is in a tough spot right now.

Stay tuned throughout November to see what is going on with the Phillies.

No team will be in a more interesting situation at the 2014 MLB trade deadline than the Philadelphia Phillies.

They have been near the bottom of the National League East for a while now. However, due to being in a weak division, they are still in contention. That combination presents an interesting dilemma for ownership.

Are the Phillies buyers or sellers?

Should the team decide that it is a seller, it has a few veteran players whom it could try to move. The Phillies could find it difficult to get some good pieces back at the deadline because some of their best assets have no-trade clauses.

The next three weeks or so will go a long way in determining what the team does at the deadline. Philadelphia has the veteran pieces to make a run at the postseason, but it may not be talented enough to overcome an early-season deficit in the NL East.

Make sure to keep checking back here to see what rumors the Phillies are involved in or what deals the team makes as the MLB trade deadline approaches.

The Philadelphia Phillies had a disappointing 2013 season, but they have a chance to get back to winning next year if they make some moves in the winter.

After many wondered what would happen with second baseman Chase Utley, the Phillies gave him an extension during the season. That means the team is set at first base, second base and shortstop for the next couple of years.

There is some talent in the outfield as well. Domonic Brown and Ben Revere are good players, so this team has some pieces in place.

Philadelphia’s bullpen ranked 27th in baseball this year. Jonathan Papelbon’s future is unclear, but the team needs to look for help for the bullpen regardless of what it does with its closer.

Let’s take a look at some of the areas that the Phillies need to address this offseason:

  • Starting pitching
  • Bullpen
  • Catcher
  • Third Base

It doesn’t matter what position it’s at, the Phillies need to find a right-handed bat with some pop.

Stay tuned throughout the offseason to see what kind of moves the Phillies make.
